Perkins Pirates, Huron Tigers advance to state bowling tournament

Two powers out of the Sandusky Bay Area Bowling Conference, Perkins and Huron, punched their first-ever tickets to the State Bowling Tournament in Columbus after strong showings at the Northwest District Tournament at Interstate Lanes in Rossford on Friday.

The Pirates won the tournament on Friday wtih a score of 4,148, including the highest Baker score of the day with 1,274. Huron finished third with a score of 3,906.

Huron’s Alex Winschel had a career-high 673 series highlighted by a game of 240, good enough to put him in second place overall by just one pin. He was named to the All-District Tournament team.

Perkins had three bowlers finish in the top ten as Chase Boyer, Kole Minton and Maxx Tamburrino finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

The trio each had a 600-plus series, with Boyer scoring 609, Minton getting 607 and Tamburrino finishing with 603.

Josh Minton finished in 11th a 592 series, and Larry Pisano came in 15th for Huron with a 582 series, including a 233 game.

Perkins’ Cole LaMarca came in 19th by bowling a 575 series, highlighted by a 218 game.

The State Tournament will take place on March 2 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl, beginning with the qualifying round at 11 a.m.
