Huron Tigers postseason run ends in semifinal loss to Bishop Ready Silver Knights

You can count the number of losses the Huron volleyball team was dealt this season on one hand.

Thursday night was one of them, and it ended the Tigers’ season in the process.

Huron lost to Bishop Ready in the Division III, Region 10 semifinals in five sets, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 13-5, ending its season at 22-4 — an improvement from last year’s 14-10 team that lost to Bucyrus Wynford in the district semifinals.

“I thought the deciding factor in the match was our lack of discipline,” Tigers coach Don Wood said. “Certainly not our lack of effort, our kids played hard, but we had some discipline issues in terms of positioning and stuff like that throughout the course of the match. We gave away too many free points, and Bishop Ready’s got a very nice team.”

The match was the last in the careers of seniors Kat Ferrell, Sydney Bragg and Sydney Grendow.

Ferrell had 19 kills and 16 digs against the Silver Knights, whil Grendow added 44 assists and 22 digs.

“To go 22-4 this year with a pretty strong schedule says a lot about this group of kids and the work they put in the offseason to get better,” Wood said. “We have some kids coming back next year that learned some lessons this year, and the seniors are going to move on and hopefully they learned a lot that they can take with them as they move on to either a college careeror just move on through life in general.
